Pink Hair, Don’t Care

So, you want to be brave, to try a new daring colour! But what if you don’t want to permanently colour your hair?

What if you’ve had your hair coloured and you don’t want that colour to fade due to prolonged sun exposure, excessive washing or swimming?

Maybe you don’t want to have your hair coloured every 6 weeks?

Any of these scenarios sound familiar?

If so, then we have the product for you!

Maria Nila Color Refresh!

First, let me tell you about Maria Nila as a brand. The products are developed and produced in Sweden. They are 100% vegan, cruelty free and self-confessed animal lovers! The brand is certified by not one, not two, but three independent well known, trusted organizations, PETA, Leaping Bunny and The Vegan Society. They are also big on sustainability using climate compensated packaging with Zeromission. This means that every time you buy a Maria Nila product you are helping them to plant new trees in South America, helping to save the planet! Check out this quote from their website,

“Maria Nila is not the usual hair care company. Our 100% vegan and cruelty free-certified products are developed with love for our animal lovers, our nature and your hair. Animals fill our lives with joy and laughter, and should therefore never be part of a beauty product. By providing high quality vegan products, we make it easy for you to take a step towards a sustainable and friendlier world. When choosing Maria Nila, you choose animal-friendly and colour-preserving haircare products manufactured locally in Sweden. Our chemists always develop Maria Nila’s products with the highest quality ingredients. The content should be nice to hair, animals and nature.”

Color Refresh is an amazing product that TLC uses during treatments and also retails. It is specifically a nourishing hair mask with colour pigments that quickly and easily refresh the colour whilst nurturing the hair. It also smells amazing! The colour generally lasts 4-10 washes, you can keep it lasting longer by using a colour saving shampoo and conditioner (which Maria Nila also produces and again it smells like a sweet shop in heaven) There are 13 different shades to choose from, or you can mix the shades together to produce your own perfect colour!

Don’t be confused though, the product cannot lighten an existing colour, this product is designed to refresh the hair and the resulting colour will depend on the hairs existing colour and quality. Lighter shades are suited for lighter hair whilst the darker shades can be used on both dark and light hair. I particularly love the “Vivid Violet” on dark hair, such a luscious shine when the sunlight hits it just right!

As a salon treatment we provide this product during our “Gloss & Blow Dry” where you can enjoy a relaxing wash at the Wash Station and the colour chosen by you and mixed by our stylists is applied and left to take action. After the treatment your hair is blow dried and styled to perfection, whether you like it smooth and sleek or curled and bouncy, the choice is yours. This treatment is perfect in preparation for a night out or special occasion. Many clients also book this treatment between permanent colouring treatments to keep their colour fresh and long lasting.

As an “at home” treatment, we recommend applying to damp, towel dried hair. Comb the product through the hair for an even coverage and leave for 3-10 minutes, the longer you leave the hair the more intensity of colour you gain. Buy your product at TLC and we will provide you with some free Maria Nila disposable gloves.

Here Salon co-founder Taryn decided to give her own take on the recent “Kim Kardashian Pink” I think she nailed it and then some, what do you think?

“Pink is not my usual colour choice, in fact I would go as far as to say I hated pink personally! Maria Nila ‘Pop Pink’ as a product is semi-permanent and so if I disliked it, I could easily wash it out, this gave me the confidence to try pink!

I decided to enlist one of our team stylists Jaz for help in my hair design. We decided to add Olaplex to the colour mix as my own hair goes through a lot of stress and chemical treatments, the joy of being a hair stylist and constantly wanting to change my own hair. My hair had been previously highlighted, this meant that the pink would penetrate and become more vibrant in these areas whilst giving my darker sections a pink hue. The Olaplex would help to repair and reconstruct my hair, add this to the Maria Nila’s nourishing properties and you get one heck of a hair treat!

We left the colour to take for around 10 minutes before rinsing and conditioning the hair to help ‘seal’ the colour. Jaz made sure I was comfortable and relaxed whilst at the hair basin. Having my hair professionally washed is heavenly, so relaxing and eases the days stress and toil away. You know when we as stylists, wash and condition your hair, we adopt many of the techniques and movements found within an Indian Head Massage. As I said, heavenly!

Once rinsed out we applied Kenra Blow Dry Spray, again to help ‘seal’ the colour so that it would last longer and to help protect my hair during blow drying and heat styling. I chose to have my hair finished using the Cloud 9 Curling wand. With short hair like mine many feel that they can’t curl the hair, but it can be done, and it can look beautiful. Jaz finished the hair by lightly tousling and softening the curls before applying Kenra Dry Texture Spray.

And wow! From hating pink to loving it! Well on my hair anyway! Kim K eat your heart out, I can pull off pink hair in confidence and style! And do you know the best bit? When I’m bored, I can give my hair a couple of washes and then I can try a new colour! I’m thinking maybe Vivid Violet or Azure, the possibilities are endless!!”
